The Salt Spring community came together this afternoon for an important opportunity for cross cultural sharing and feasting. This kid and family friendly event included many elders, knowledge keepers, drummers, dancers and community members from local Salt Spring bands. Participants were treated to stories, song, dancers, a delicious salmon and bannock lunch as well as teachings about natural law, reef net fishing, cedar weaving, music from Wesley Hardisty and an important discussion on cultural competency, reconciliation & decolonization. Hych’ka Siem to all the elders, organizers, dancers, story tellers and the community who came out to support this very well attended local cultural gathering. May there be many more.
